New Lockdown – Sessions Cancelled

Due to the lockdown announced on 31st October, the next four club nights are now cancelled.

Provided the lockdown lasts the four weeks currently specified and the rules for Harborough revert to the previous rules, the next club night should be Friday 4th December.

We will keep you updated.

Proposed Return to Play – Fri 30th Oct

After consulting our members we’ve decided we have enough players interested to make club nights viable so…

Harborough Feathers will return to club play at Welland Park School on Friday 30th October.

But in these exceptional times club nights will be different. We must follow social distancing guidelines Badminton England have agreed with the Government. We will be giving out more information over the next few weeks but here are some highlights.

  • First club night Friday 30th October at 7:30pm.
  • No joining fee – we will have a pay before you play booking system.
  • To allow enough space for social distancing we will play on 2 courts only.
  • Our club nights will accommodate a maximum of 12 players.
  • It will be necessary to pre-book your slot.
  • Players will be split into two bubbles of 6.

Club members have been asking for information on what our club nights will look like. Badminton England have agreed two options for how club nights can be run:

  • Option 1 – Casual Club Play
  • Option 2 – Club Match Play

See here if you are interested in reading more detail.

The committee has decided to go with the “Casual Club Play” for our first club night on 30th October. With Casual Play (remember for social distancing reasons we are only playing on two courts):

  • Members will be divided into two pods of 6 players and you will be assigned to either “Pod A” or “Pod B” in advance of the night.
  • Players can partner anyone in their pod against any other pairing taken from their pod.
  • At any time 8 members will be playing and 2 members from each pod will be sitting off – each pod in their own sitting area. Players sitting off should remember to stay 2m apart as far as possible.

Please see the link below which shows courts, and seating areas for each pod:

We look forward to seeing many of you on court soon.

AGM Minutes & Update

We hope you are all well. As you may be aware, we belatedly held the Harborough Feathers AGM recently, the minutes of the meeting are available at the link below for your information.

Obviously one of the main items of discussion at the AGM was when the club may be able to restart our Friday night sessions, given the current situation, government restrictions and the availability of the sports hall. To keep you updated, the proposal agreed at the AGM is to consider restarting sessions under the current Badminton England guidance after the October half-term (i.e. 30th October).

The decision is not straightforward, as restarting the club in the current situation is likely to involve considerable effort. Therefore the committee will review this proposal in mid-October, considering the situation at that time, prior to any decision being made.

We will update you again when we have more details.

AGM – Thurs 20th August

We hope you’re all well and not missing Badminton too much. These are strange times and the lockdown meant that we missed our usual AGM slot in May. However, the committee has decided that we should now go ahead with this and therefore the Harborough Feathers AGM will take place on Thursday 20th August 2020 at 7.30pm online via voice/video conference (details will be provided nearer the time).

The AGM is a great opportunity to have your say on how the club is run (including subscription fees, team entries, match nights etc). There should be much to discuss as we seek to understand when, where and how we get back to playing again as a club. We would therefore absolutely welcome your attendance and input at the AGM, even if you do not wish to take on a more active role with the club.

That being said, we are always looking for people to get involved and offer to help on the committee. All committee positions will be up for election at the AGM, including:

  • Chair
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Men’s 1 Captain
  • Ladies Captain
  • Doubles Captain
  • Welfare Officer(s)
  • Social Secretary
  • Fixtures Secretary

In particular, the positions of Chair and Social Secretary need to be filled as Andrew and Frank respectively have indicated they no longer wish to continue, after many years of excellent service on the committee. Most of the committee roles are not too time consuming and you are welcome to ask myself or one of the existing committee members what the roles involve. Note also that we cannot enter teams into the league(s) without team captains.

If you are interested in any of the roles on the committee or would like to add something to the agenda for discussion at the AGM, then please let me know by Friday 14th August. Likewise, if you are unable to attend and would like something raised, then please let me know.

We hope to see as many of you as possible at the AGM and hopefully sometime soon on the badminton court.

Badminton Sessions Cancelled Until Further Notice

Sorry to have to do this, but the current advice from the UK government as of today is to avoid all but essential contact with others and this would definitely include our weekly badminton sessions and any matches scheduled with other clubs.

So until further notice, there will be no Harborough Feathers badminton sessions on Fridays.

Stay safe and healthy and we hope to see you all back playing badminton when the situation improves.

Membership fees reminder and fixtures

Fees

The deadline for discounted membership fees is fast approaching. If you have not yet paid your fees, you can still pay the £120 rate before the end of September. After that, the full rate of £130 will be due.

If you are expected to play matches in one of our teams, your fees must be paid ASAP in order that we can register individuals with Badminton England and the relevant leagues in advance of the first fixtures. As stated previously, no one will be registered or able to play in matches until their fees are paid.

The easiest way to pay is by bank transfer. The bank account details have been emailed to all current club members, but please speak to Jim or John if you need confirmation.

You can also pay by cheque/cash to Jim, John or any other committee member at club night if you prefer.

Fixtures

All the fixtures are now available here.

New Season Starts 30th August 2019

We hope you had a good summer and are ready for the new season, which starts on Friday 30th August. Please see the detailed information below for season dates, subscription fees and club contacts.

Refurbishment of the sports hall at Welland Park Academy has been carried out over the summer, including new floor, improved lighting and new posts, which will hopefully be a huge improvement.

We look forward to seeing you on 30th August in the refurbished hall!

Club Nights

A full listing of club nights is available here.

Note that on a few occasions during the season, club night may be switched to Meadowdale Primary School due to matches taking place at Welland Park. Members will be notified prior to these dates by email and on the club website.

Subscriptions

This seasons club fees are here. There has been a slight increase of £10 in the adult club fees for this season. This is largely due to increased cost of shuttles and court hire.

Can you please ensure that your subscriptions are paid by the end of September, any subs received after that will not receive the £10 discount. If you’re intending to play in matches, prompt payment is appreciated so you can be registered. No one will be registered or able to play in matches until their fees are paid.

You can pay your fees by giving cheque/cash to Jim at club night or you can now pay by bank transfer. Please speak to Jim or John for account details.

Matches

We intend to have Ladies, Doubles, Men’s teams registered in their respective leagues.

Once we have the fixtures, they will be available on the club website here.

Contacts

A list of contacts for club committee members is available here, should you need to contact us during the season. You can also contact us using the club email address badminton@harborough-feathers.co.uk.
